On Renovating...
"The cardinal rule of renovation is that while nobody knows what's behind walls and ceilings, fixing whatever's there or replacing whatever isn't will always take longer and cost far more than you think. Restoring a room, especially one that's nearly two hundred years old, is an organic thing. Everything affects everything else, all the small gears pieces of a greater whole."
